Gainsborough Trinity were just minutes away from inflicting the first Skrill North defeat of the season on Solihull Moors. But two strikes from midfielder Ryan Beswick in the final four minutes kept up the Moors’ unbeaten run and ended Trinity’s own five-game succession of games without defeat.
Steve Housham’s side went behind in first half stoppage time when Beswick’s cross found Stuart Pierpoint who headed home from eight yards out. Gainsborough hit back in the second half through substitute and assistant boss Darryn Stamp, who side-footed home a superb Liam Davis cross.
Trinity then took the lead when Alistair Taylor’s low shot found the bottom corner off the inside of the post.
Trinity appeared to be on course for a fine away victory, but Beswick came to his side’s rescue, firstly with an unstoppable 25-yard free-kick and then, with just a minute remaining, he hit another long-range drive past Phil Barnes.
Gainsborough Trinity are in action again on Tuesday evening when they take on Lincoln City in the final of the Lincolnshire County Cup at the Northolme (7.45pm).
