Leamington 2 Gainsborough Trinity 0

Trinity crashed out of the FA Trophy at the first hurdle as they visited the New Windmill Ground to take on their Skrill North rivals, Leamington, in the FA Trophy. They had hoped for a repeat of their last visit in September when they came away with a win, but it wasn’t to be and Leamington put on a controlled display to progress to the next round.

Trinity had three changes to the site who saw defeat mid-week. Johno Williams returned to the starting line up in replacement for Liam Davis, Darryn Stamp started after Yussuf's loan ended and Josh Lacey replaced Tom Ward in the defence.

Trinity were hard pressed in the first half and only managed one shot on target, when Dan Clayton played a cross-cum-shot but Breedon easily gathered in the Leamington net. On 32 minutes Leamington got a break when it appeared that a Leamington man was coming back from an offside position and impeded Roma, but the move was neatly finished by Chilton. Trinity had Barnes and Roma to thank ten minutes later to ensure that they went in only 1 goal down at half time.

The second half was more of the same, as Leamington pressured Trinity and Phil Barnes was amazing in the Trinity net to keep the score at 1-0. Leamington finally breached the Trinity goal again in the 77th minute as a passing move was finished by Moore sliding the ball into the corner.

Trinity tried to mount a comeback and had the ball in the net in injury time, but Wooton’s goal was adjudged offside.
