Saturday's hosts have former Trinity boss Dave Frecklington as Director of Football & a couple of other familiar faces associated with the club. Gregg Smith, of cult hero fame, from his time with Trinity under Curtis Woodhouse for one, Tristan Drummond a right sided full back/wing back, and midfielder Jamie Ture, to name but a few, that have previously pulled on the Blue of Gainsborough Trinity.

It was a pretty eventful season down at Ashby Avenue. The Whites just missing out on a Wembley date, losing on penalties in a two leg semi final against Romford, before again falling just short, losing to Skegness in the play-offs thwarting their attempts at an immediate return to Step 4. So far unbeaten in pre-season,

Trinity will pose the trickiest test yet for United who have so far kicked off their pre-season with an emphatic win over Appleby Frodingham, The Whites followed that with a stalemate against Loughborough Students. Victory by two in a 2-0 win over Lincolnshire rivals Winterton Rangers, followed by another 0-0, this with Stamford seven days ago. And lastly ,defeating Brigg by two goals to nil in midweek. All in all, taking The Whites' tally to five games undefeated, without conceding a goal.

Meanwhile, Russ Wilcox's Holy Blues have played three games. Saturday being the fourth in an intense ten day period for Trinity. In the three games, the Blues have averaged three goals a game, and will be hoping to maintain that scoring streak on Saturday. With goals coming from all angles, Russ certainly believes his side are playing an exciting brand of football,

"I thought we were great (on Tuesday) going forwards. We scored three really good goals. Created so many chances. We are looking in good shape and that's the main thing. We moved the ball well, but we spoke about being better with the ball and keeping it a bit better when playing against the top, top teams. Once we got that first pass off, we played some really good stuff. Lots of positives, if we can be that creative in our league going forwards, it will be very pleasing."

Following the Lincoln United game, we go three home games in a row, to complete our pre-season preparations. Tuesday night see us face Barnsley at the Kal Group Stadium. Tickets for the game being available to purchase via our online Ticketing portal, for home and away spectators. News coming out of Oakwell indicates that The Tykes will be sending down a number of first teamers to the Northolme - so another tough test is in store for Wilcox and his boys!

After Barnsley, it's Sheffield United (27/07/24) and Boston United (03/08/24) at home, before the league curtain raiser on August 10th, away to Ilkeston Town. The season will soon be upon us, so let's show the belief we have in Russ, Kevin & the side that has been assembled, with good numbers making the trip to Ashby Avenue.
