Wilcox a Blue Through to End of 2026/27

Gainsborough Trinity Football Club are delighted to announce that Russ Wilcox has penned an extension to his contract. Signing until the end of the 2026/27 season, the deal shows a real desire by all parties to tie down the most successful manager in recent history. The deal allows Russ and the Board to plan positively for the longer term future of the club, staying with the club for another 2 years.

CEO Matt Boles said, “We are absolutely delighted to get this deal across the line and extend Russ’s stay with the club for another 2 years. Since he walked in the door, he has brought a level of professionalism and success unmatched in recent times. We all look forward to building on the last two years and continuing to drive the club forward both on and off the pitch. Having Russ confirmed at the helm for next season now allows us the chance to plan and build properly and I can’t wait to see where this next chapter takes us..."

On signing his new deal, Russ added: "I’m delighted to be extending my journey at GTFC. It’s been an exciting year and half. We as staff and players have certainly played a big part in moving the club forward, along with the very dedicated Board of Directors, volunteers and you the fans who are the heart and soul of the club."

"I’ve been able to build and this season we have been rewarded with two incredible cup runs and many memories from both the FA Cup and FA Trophy. To reach the 2nd round of the FA Cup for the first time in 72 years was amazing and will live with us all forever."

In his first season, Russ lead the Holy Blues to eighth in the table, narrowly missing out on the play-offs having taken over from Neal Bishop in September, with the side in the relegation zone. This season, having retained a large chunk of his squad, and adding some youthful quality, Wilcox took the side on remarkable journeys in the Emirates FA Cup and Isuzu FA Trophy providing supporters with some of the best moments, cumulating in a 72 year best in the cup, with an appearance on TV and a twelve year best FA Trophy run.
