The Mascot Race, traditionally held before the start of the Epsom Derby Festival, is a quirky yet fiercely contested sprint involving mascots from clubs and organisations across the country.

Known for its chaotic energy and humorous spirit, the race is a fan-favourite spectacle and a celebration of sporting camaraderie. Trenton’s selection marks a milestone for Gainsborough Trinity, our club steeped in history and pride. While the club is better known for its grit and performances on the pitch, Trenton has quietly become a popular addition to the Trinity team since his unveiling at the start of last season. Named by young Trinity supporter, Ivy Barksby, following a competition ran by the club, Trenton has become a regular in the crowd, both home and away, and out and about, supporting local community events. And now, going on to represent Trinity on a national stage.

Haydon the Womble, renowned for his charity work and sporting spirit, extended the invitation as part of an initiative to highlight mascots from lower-tier clubs and bring more inclusivity to the race exclaimed, "We’re thrilled to have Trenton join us,"

Haydon said. "It’s about having fun, raising smiles, and showing the heart behind every club."

Trenton will don his familiar blue costume, potentially lining up alongside the likes of Gunnersaurus (Arsenal), Captain Canary (Norwich City), and other fan favourites on race day. A familiar face from our league, Brig Cat (the goalkeeper glove wearing, Bamber Bridge mascot) has enjoyed a successful couple of entries into the race in recent years - but this year Trenton will be looking to wave the Northern Premier Flag aloft this year.

Fans of Gainsborough Trinity are asked to rally in support of the friendly blue dolphin, with some supporters planning to make the trip to cheer on their aquatic ambassador. Donations can also be made to the Children's Trust. Those looking to get involved, are encouraged to tag Trenton's name in any pledges to the Races' charity, and the mascot raising the most monies will be recognised with a prize (and more fame for our fun-loving mammal.

Whether Trenton wins or flops with a splash, his inclusion in the 2025 Mascot Race is a win for Gainsborough Trinity—and is testament to the strengths the Holy Blues are going to - both on and off the pitch. With Trenton leading the way - hopefully there will be plenty more successes for the mighty Trinity!
