Speaking ahead of the match up, Wilcox admitted, "We will treat the Lincoln United game like every game. We go out to try and win. It’s still very early in pre-season, which isn’t ideal, as three players will have to play the full 90 minutes after only five training sessions & a game at Frickley, but we will pick a side that helps us prepare for the start of the season"

A squad of eighteen is permitted, for the Cup, with seven substitutes allowed from seven. In a game that will go straight to penalties, if the scores are level at the full time whistle. A conclusion must be found, on the night.

There are a couple of familiar faces, Frecklington, as mentioned earlier, previously managed the Holy Blues between 2017 & 2018, actually helping Trinity to County Cup success, when defeating Boston United on penalties at the Northolme. Rio Molyneaux also had a short spell with the Blues. He was with Trinity while Tom Shaw was Head Coach.

Lining up in the Gainsborough side, is young forward, Connor Brown. He scored sixteen times for the Whites as they moved away from the drop zone, under the management of Frecks. He earned his step up to Gainsborough, and opened his Trinity account, 26 seconds into his Gainsborough debut, at the weekend.

So far this pre-season, Lincoln United have played two games, losing 4-3 away (at Saturday's opponents, Basford United), and beating a youthful Lincoln City 2-1 at home, last time out.

The winner of Tuesday'e cup tie will go on to face Grimsby Borough (away) in the first round, with the route to the Quarter Finals already mapped out - see below.
