During pre-season he has demonstrated the ability to get on the ball and drive at opposition defences. Gifted with natural acceleration, he's sure to become a favourite with the Trinity faithful, as he looks to add quality going forwards. 45-minute outings against Bottesford Town and Yaxley, plus impressive performances in training, led to the offer of a deal ahead of the Lincoln City, Lincolnshire County Cup fixture, only to have the appearance scuppered when International Clearance couldn’t be rushed through in time.
Club Secretary, Matt Boles though, managed to work round the clock to ensure the relevant paperwork was signed and sealed ahead of the opening day of the season, giving Rangel every opportunity of being in Tom Shaw’s first league line up. Delighted with landing his man, Shaw insisted,
"Joao has been with us for most of pre-season and every time we have seen him, he has shown more of his ability and attributes. He has everything we have been looking for during our recruitment drive. He is relentless, honest, athletic, and technically efficient. He will have to adjust his game from age group football and his experiences in Portugal, but when he fully understands what is required tactically and physically, I am confident he will have a big impact on our season. He plays the game with a real love for the sport, with freedom and enthusiasm and he has the potential to be a fans favourite."
The Head Coach closed by saying, "I look forward to working with Joao this coming season and playing a part in the next stage of his development and progress." The new signing was obviously pleased to have caught the eye and done enough to secure a deal ahead of the new season and is now looking forward to the new season with anticipation: "I am also really excited to play in front of the Gainsborough Trinity fans and show them my qualities on the ball."
Looking ahead to Saturday’s game the Portuguese attacker said: "Obviously myself, the team and the fans of course, we are looking forward to our first game of the season this Saturday against Witton Albion. It will be a tough game for sure, but I am really confident that we can perform well and hopefully get the first three points to set us off for a good start."
We look forward to seeing you pull on the shirt Joao, and we wish you and your family, the warmest of welcomes to Gainsborough. Here's hoping, together we can go on to achieve great things!
