Wharton said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to have Dylan sign for the club this season. Dylan is a top young 'keeper and someone, as a staff, we wanted to bring to Trinty, when we were alerted to his availability." Outlining what the on loan Sheffield United stopper will bring to the Holy Blues, JB highlighted his professionalism, "Dylan brings to the club an attitude and standard that’s set at the top tier of English football. He has great potential and I’m glad we can play a part in his developmental journey. He’s going to be a great character in the dressing room and fit in brilliantly to the group we are trying to create this season!”

We have agreed a deal with Sheffield United, to keep the 20 year old Wharton for the season, ensuring stability in the goalkeeping department. A key position to fill, following Matt Yates' move to a team closer to his Derbyshire home.

Wharton has been involved in the two pre-season friendlies to date, and has been impressed by both his surroundings and his team mates, particularly in the home game against a Manchester United XI. A game in which Trinity came from behind to draw one a piece;

"I’m really happy with the decision I’ve made to join the Blues for the season, especially after the Manchester United friendly. Walking out onto the pitch before the game, and to see the pitch. It was an absolute carpet & I am told it's like that all year round! I’ve settled in really well, the manager, coaching staff and the players are very good and were very welcoming."

The surroundings feel perfect for the imposing Wharton, and the optimism the 'keeper holds for the season ahead is clear to see, as he declares: "I’m looking forward to pushing for promotion this year and playing lots of games. We have a very strong chance with the team that is being built now and the amazing fans behind our backs all the way through the season."

Dylan is expected to be in action again tomorrow night (Tuesday) when the Holy Blues take on a strong Scunthorpe United side at the Northolme. Kick off at 7.30pm, tickets can be bought in advance, online - here. Or via cash purchases on the turnstiles tomorrow evening. Unfortunately, no card payments can be taken on the gate, due to circumstances beyond our control. We thank you for your understanding.
