Initially signed on loan from Vanarama National League North side Scarborough Athletic, where he was a long-serving, fan favourite, Jacko quickly established himself with the Holy Blues. Enough to make the move permanent. And now we can reveal he is with us for the upcoming 2024/25 season.

Declaring his delight to be staying at the club, Jackson explained, “It was a no brainer to extend my time at the club, the main reason being I know Russ and his team have a plan to get the club moving in the right direction and we've only seen the beginning of it which is very exciting. I want to be part of that journey and so do a lot of the boys so fingers crossed we finish the year strong and smash next season.”

“I'm loving my time at Gainsborough, it's been a completely different challenge, but one that I've enjoyed, and to see some of the football that we play now is exciting to see, and a credit to the hard work of the players and staff. It's a great bunch of lads, great team spirit and great management staff to top it off. I think it's also a group that's grown so much in the season which has shown in the results in the past 2/3 months.”

Vast experience garnered from spells at Scarborough, Boston United & Ossett, Jackson brings that know how, and NPL promotion winning experience to the group. During his time at Scarborough, he was instrumental in helping the Seadogs to promotion via the Play-Offs. His Scarborough side seeing off Warrington Town at Flamingo Land Stadium a couple of seasons ago.

Russ Wilcox was understandably delighted to secure the services of Jacko for another season, “We had an option on Ash’s original contract, which was most important to have, and we are delighted to have been able to exercise that. Ashley is a real voice in the dressing room. He brings a wealth of experience, and as you have seen, can play numerous positions having played at left wing back, left back and left sided centre back. He is a fit lad, who fits in well with what we are trying to do at the football club. He trains well and shows a great example to the younger members of the group.”

It's great to have you with us for another season, Ash!

One Town. One Team. One Trinity.
