Leek won the Northern Premier League Division One West to secure their return to step three. Interestingly, it will be Gainsborough’s first visit to Leek’s Harrison Park and their 3G pitch in 20 years. The two sides head into the game with almost equal records, while Trinity sit three positions further up the NPL table due to their goal difference. Both teams have lost two games, drew one and lost one so far this season.

Leek’s season opener was a 2-0 defeat at home to fellow promoted outfit Stockton Town, before picking up a narrow win at Basford United by a goal to nil. They followed that with a draw at Workington AFC, ahead of a 3-1 defeat to Mickleover on Tuesday night. Brendon Daniels has netted twice so far this term, after joining Leek this summer.

Russ Wilcox’s side started their season with a draw at Ilkeston Town, that should have been three points, with a penalty shout and offside decision going against them. They then completed a controlled win over Morpeth Town in their home opener, before a disappointing defeat to Ashton United. An early goal and mostly positive display in midweek are signs for positivity, while the end result was a 2-1 win for Hebburn Town.

The August Bank Holiday weekend brings the excitement of Worksop Town’s visit on Monday, while it also throws up an interesting clash with a Leek side who are thus far evenly matched with the travelling Trinity.

Elsewhere

Hebburn look to keep up their winning streak, attempting to make it five wins from five at home to Basford United. Basford head into the game after securing their first win of the season, at home to Morpeth Town last Saturday afternoon. Second play fourth at the Project Solar Stadium, with Hyde United welcoming Stockton Town. Just a point separates the sides, with Hyde a couple of points off leaders Hebburn. Macclesfield will be looking to get back to winning ways after Tom Cursons equalised for Ilkeston Town in midweek. It was the first points Robbie Savage’s Silkmen have dropped this season. It is fair to say that anything can happen this weekend, with the next round of fixtures just 48 hours after Saturday's regular slate of fixtures:
