Game 15 Preview: Lancaster City (A)

Next in the busy fixture schedule, is a trip to the Giant Axe, for Russ Wilcox’s Holy Blues. Lancaster City lying in wait for the Holy Blues’ second away game in four days. The hosts having enjoyed a break from action in midweek, while Wilcox’s Trinity were leaving it late to pick up a late victory in Derbyshire. The win against Mickleover lifting Trinity up to seventeen, with eyes as high as 13th a possibility, if results go our way.

Results haven’t always gone the way of the Holy Blues when facing Lancaster though. A win for the Dolly Blues would see Chris Willock’s side complete the double over Trinity this season, though a look at the split over the last few seasons, it’s generally a win a piece! Last season, Lancaster were victorious at the Giant Axe, despite a quick fire Dayle Southwell opener. While, in the game in Lincolnshire, a solitary Declan Howe goal settled the match. Under Bish, Trinity won in the league at Saturday’s destination, but lost at Northolme, and in the FA Trophy, quite often, this fixture being too close to call.

Declan Howe with 20 goals coming in 24 games (22 in 26, including the midweek winner and goal against Stamford in the Lincolnshire County Cup), who would have thought Dec would be firing at a better strike rate than last season? His goals really giving the side the opportunity to win games of football. And the neversaydie attitude of Russ Wilcox's squad, give a real feeling of belief. Quality throughout the starting eleven, and on the bench, Tuesday night even saw Bobby Johnson missing out on a squad place.

Dayle Southwell and Edwin Essel, alongside Danny Devine, are all on the road to recovery, as they continue to build up their fitness. Devine at Liversedge, while Essel continues to work alongside physio Jon Whitehorne. Three quality players that will add a dimension to the squad and certainly give Wilcox a headache or two in terms of selections!

Immediately on the horizon is the challenge of Lancaster City, which will be a real tough one. Their ninth place position is built on a 'do not lose mentality. Otherwise known as the draw specialists, Lancaster have drawn 50% of their twenty league games played. The ones not ending in a draw, have seen Lancaster win six, only losing four times in the league. At home, they have picked up 15 points through six draws and three wins in ten. Their only home league defeat coming against Leek Town on the 1st October, in a narrow 1-0 defeat.

Away from home, Trinity have picked up 13 points from seven games on the road. And the Holy Blues will be looking to add to away wins against Mickleover, Whitby, Leek and Matlock. The victory on Saturday would give a 2 points per game average on the road, certainly not to be sniffed at!
