Game 42 Preview: Leek Town (H)

For the final time this season, it’s time to preview a game in the 2024/25 campaign. Though the number indicates number forty-two, it is in fact the 63rd game, including the pre-season preparations and magical cup runs. We’ve come a long way since travelling the short distance to Club Thorne back at the end of July. Now, as we prepare to welcome Leek Town to the Kal Group Stadium, and bring down the curtain on the most remarkable of seasons, things are looking bright for anyone of a Holy Blue persuasion.

Should Russ and his Management Team be able to keep the core of the group that has brought us so many moments this season, and add in even more quality, 2025/26 might even be bigger and better than the present one! But for now, we look at ending this season the right way. From the Holy Blues’ 20 home games so far, Gainsborough have picked up 28 points from matches at the Kal Group Stadium. A ninth home victory could see Russ Wilcox’s men move onto 31 points.

Leek have picked up 27 points from their twenty games away from home, meaning on paper, this is quite a tight fixture. Perhaps too tight to call. Saturday’s visitors sit in 13th, with 52 points on the board, eight points clear of the drop zone, and nine below Trinity in seventh. Gainsborough can climb a place to sixth and drop as low as ninth, whereas Leek can make 12th, or end up in 18th. Pride and placings certainly have plenty on the line, in Game Day 42, at the end of an incredibly long and gruelling season.

The game earlier in the season saw Ollie Harrison head home from a corner, midway through the first half, before goals from Lewis Butroid (57 minutes) and Will Lancaster (90+3) saw Trinity secure the late turnaround and pick up their seventh point from the first fifteen available.

Presentation

After the fixture is our Presentation Night, on Saturday evening, after the final home game against Leek, kindly hosted by The Blues Club. From 6pm until late, join the players and staff in the Main Concert Room for a Video Review of a quite remarkable season, pizza provided by the Board of Directors, the End of Season Player of the Year Awards and live music and entertainment put on by our friends, at Blues, until late.
