That game typified the spirit and belief of Russ Wilcox's squad. The character to overcome adversity. And with a bumper home crowd set to greet Trinity on Saturday, those traits will need to be on display in their bucket loads as 4th host 2nd in the Pitching In Northern Premier League. Two points separate the sides ahead of the game, and with both teams going well, optimism is certainly high in both camps heading into this one! It's fair to say - this one surely fits the billing for 'Game of the Day' in the Northern Premier League, Premier Division.
Two form teams, that could see either, or neither side go top A clash of styles is set to go head to head on Saturday, as Russ Wilcox's defensive unit have been on top form in recent weeks. Six successive league clean sheets and seven shut outs in nine games have provided the Holy Blues with the platform to build on - and win games of football. Six different scorers have come up with the goals for Wilcox's men so far this season, meaning the goals have been shared around - as well as having prolific hitman Jonny Margetts amongst the goals, heading the Trinity scoring charts - and figuring prominently on the league leader board.
Hednesford, who dismantled Coleshill 7-0 away in the last round of the FA Cup, before beating Leek Town, in the Staffordshire derby, on Tuesday night, are managed by Gavin Hurren and are
unbeaten in five home games so far this season. Wins in the league against Workington, Warrington Town & Ilkeston & a draw against West Midland neighbours Rushall Olympic (the side the Holy Blues beat last Saturday in the FA Cup) are coupled with a home FA Cup win against Basford.
There was late drama in the Pitmen's last home game, that attracted nearly 1,500 through the gate. Trailing one nil to Ilkeston in the 82nd minute, Hednesford went on to win 2-1 thanks to two stoppage time goals and an Ilson red card. Darren Gray's Supporters' Coach is running for the game, and as we go to press, there are still a few seats available. Priced at £18 per person, please get in touch with Darren to book your seat. The more members of the Blue Army that we can take with us - and bring to cheer us on - the better.
Our away support so far this season has been fantastic. And it's really making a difference! Please continue to support both Darren - and Russ and the team, by following us up and down the country. The players love nothing more than taking to the field for the warm up and looking around and seeing familiar faces, and hearing your shouts and words of encouragement. Please get behind the team - and keep backing them throughout the ninety plus minutes of the match!
