CEO, Matt Boles, spoke about the loss as he said, “We have lost a true non-league football man who will be greatly missed. Charlie was one of the very best people you could ever hope to meet. He was a fantastic character, a genuinely kind person, and a font of non-league football knowledge.”

“So many of us at the club stayed in regular contact with him right up until his passing. Our phone calls would usually start with football, somehow drift into cricket, before finding their way back to football again. Even after his time with us, Charlie would always send me a text before our big games to wish us well, or afterwards to congratulate us on a good result. That was the sort of person he was.”

“Charlie embodied everything that is good about non-league football. His warmth, loyalty, humour and passion for the game left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him or work alongside him. He was one of those people who made the game better simply by being part of it, and his loss will be felt across the non-league community.”

“On behalf of everyone at Gainsborough Trinity, I would like to send our heartfelt condolences to Charlie's family and friends, everyone at his current club, Buxton, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing or working with him. Our thoughts are with you all at this incredibly sad time. Charlie will be fondly remembered and never forgotten."

Fly high, Charlie.
