There was no animosity in the decision, with King always adamant in his stance that he will always do his best by the football club, "I just want to give it one more shot at playing. I have been involved, but the work I have been doing. I just want to get out on the pitch. I spoke to Curtis about how I was feeling, and he didn't stand in my way. I haven't spoken to anyone else as yet, but I just felt it was time to have some time away from Gainsborough as it’s been a tough season for me so far. A fresh start will do me the world of good. The lads picked up a good result on Boxing Day and that will have done morale a lot of good. For now though, I just want to thank everybody for the support they have given me during my time at the club. I would never rule out a return, but for now thank you."

Speaking of the departure, Curtis Woodhouse had this to say, "Kingy has been a real credit to himself, despite it potentially being an uncomfortable situation, he’s been nothing but a pleasure to work with. I fully understand his decision to carry on playing as he still has loads to offer and whoever he signs for his attitude, application and ability will be a huge asset to anybody, I wish him nothing but the best."
