On hearing the sad news, club secretary and lifelong Trinity fan, Matt Boles declared, "I certainly know, as a lifelong supporter, these days were some of my best and memories I still enjoy to this day". Continuing, "Who could forget winning the cup against Boston United at Sincil Bank!" Ernie also endeared himself to fans with the style of football his team played, but more so the personality of the man himself.

It is a mark of his stature, in Gainsborough, that twenty plus years since leaving the club, he is still so highly regarded and revered by Gainsborough fans, young and old.

As a football club, we would like to extend our condolences to Ernie's wife, daughters and whole family. We hope they can take some comfort in knowing that he brought so much joy and many happy memories to so many people. He will rightly always be regard as a legend here at Gainsborough Trinity.

Thanks for the memories Ernie, Rest in Peace.
