South Shields Fixture Postponed

Plans for the Holy Blues to be on top of the tree for Christmas were scuppered as Jack Frost persisted in wreaking havoc with his magic white wand. A victory for Trinity could have seen the Blues leapfrog current leaders Shields ahead of the Christmas fixtures. Close attention had been given to the forecast during the week following our lost fixture at home to Warrington Rylands last week. And despite sub-zero temperatures continuing throughout the week, the signs were looking better come 3pm kick off time.

With the temperatures plunging to minus seven on Thursday night, the frost penetrated the ground, and best laid plans were thrown into disarray. The grass on Woody's excellent Northolme carpet had previously protected the ground from the big freeze, but with the frost in the ground, another night of minus 5 and below, followed by minimal temperature rises during the day, those factors, coupled with our visitor's journey and travelling supporters, in consultation with match officials, the decision to postpone the fixture was made.

A new date for the Mariners' visit to the Dave Longstaff Martin and Co Arena will be announced in due course. Last week's scheduled home match with Warrington Rylands has been set for Saturday 11th March 2023, with a 3pm kickoff.

The next scheduled fixture for Neal Bishop's Holy Blues (in grey) is set for Boxing Day, when we travel to Liversedge for a 3pm kickoff.
