It was another game where Trinity struggled to get going in the opening period of the game, but with Nathan Stainfield and Maguire marshalling the combative Rob Hopley well, the half looked destined to finish goal-less with Gainsborough struggling to create. After the break it was a different matter and the Blues’ should have been ahead in the 53rd minute, superb footwork from top scorer Ashley Worsfold saw him clean through the Alex Byrne’s delightfully weighted through ball, but Worsfold dragged his effort wide of the target.

Two minutes later and Worsfold has the ball in the back of the net, diverting Simmons’ low strike into the goal, only to see the flag up for offside. Gainsborough were then level though, Greg Hall made a fine diving save to deny Byrne’s volley from the edge of the box, Simmons doing brilliantly to recover the ball and stand up a cross to the far post that Worsfold nodded home from close range.

As momentum shifted, chances came and went for the home side, substitutes Ross Hannah and Jonno Margetts, twice, having presentable chances to score – but as it was, like the reverse fixture, it with both teams who took a share of the spoils.
