He made his League debut in January 2017, playing the full game for the Iron in a 2-0 win over Portsmouth at Glanford Park. Going out on loan, Butroid had spells in the National League, appearing for Spennymoor Town and Hereford United, before first joining the Holy Blues upon his release from Scunthorpe. Lewis appeared fifteen times under Tom Shaw's management during the 2021/22 campaign. Helping the team to what would be the equivalent of 21 points (if all games were League fixtures) in that time.

A short spell at Worksop preceded his step back to National League North, with Farsley, ahead of today's return to the Northolme, where Lewis admits to a feeling of unfinished business,

"I am buzzing to be back really, last time I signed was all a bit rushed I’d just had covid and not done any pre-season training, so felt like I was playing catch up for the first few months. It wasn’t until I left I finally felt fully fit that season, but this time feels like I’ve got my career and performances going in the right direction and that matches how the club have got on since the start of last season so it feels like a perfect fit for me to come back. Hopefully now, I can help get the club back to where I used to watch them when I was younger, in the National League North!”

Boss, Neal Bishop was delighted to get this piece of business done early, insisting,

"I am delighted to get Lewis back to the club. Towards the end of the season, drawing up targets, he was one of the top four, five names on the list, and to get him through the door this early is fantastic."

"I think he improves us on last season and for him, a local lad – that’s a bonus, he's a very good footballer who is technically very gifted. Like I say, he had a very good season last year in the division above and he will bring a lot to us defensively and going forwards. I have known him from here, and at Scunthorpe and he's a great lad and very good footballer, I think he improves us as a team, and I am looking forward to working with him."

Welcome back to the club, Lewis! Anyone interested in sponsoring Lewis for the 2023/24 campaign should get in touch with Dave Horsley. His Home and Away shirt is currently up for grabs, priced at £100 (+VAT for businesses). Call Dave on 07971 022024.

2022/23 Club Captain, Andrew Wright, and left back Joseph West have moved to Northern Premier League rivals Matlock Town ahead of the new season. We thank both players for their dedication and commitment to the Gainsborough cause, and wish them well for the season ahead, except of course when the Gladiators and Holy Blues face off, on the pitch.
