As that was happening, Basford United were falling to defeat against Worksop Town, in perhaps the game of the round, Tuesday night’s visitors eventually going down 6-3 in a seesaw game. That match saw Basford lead early in the game through Tyrell Waite, before a three-goal salvo in thirteen minutes from a rampant Tigers looked to take the game away from Basford. They fought back, but further Worksop goals added to the cushion, before Ashley Chambers added, what was ultimately, a late consolation.

Blues’ boss Russ Wilcox was sure to point out the size of the task ahead of the game on Tuesday, pointing to his close relationship with the man in the opposition dugout, "Basford Manager Martin Carruthers is a former Hull City team mate and friend of mine, so I know what a stern test his team will pose us this evening. It will be another tough challenge, but with your support it will give us a much better chance to pick up another three vital league points."

Ahead of the game, the two sides are locked together on ten points from eight games, the visitors sat a place higher by virtue of a single goal difference, having conceded one goal fewer than the Holy Blues. Both teams have won three, drawn one and lost four, averaging 1.38 goals per game in the league. Jordan Hallam is Basford’s top scorer, with six goals in ten competitive games so far this season, while Declan Howe leads the Trinity scoring charts with eight.

Chambers is second with five to his name so far, whereas Trinity have shared the goals around more, with Lewis Butroid and Will Lancaster having a couple of goals to their name, and Dayle Southwell, Fraser Preston and Jordan Helliwell all chipping in with goals for Russ Wilcox’s men.
