Following news of his release, Goalkeeper, Wharton, bid farewell to the supporters of Gainsborough Trinity, on social media platform Instagram shortly after the curtain came down on the 2024/25 season, bringing to an end a two year association with the Holy Blues. "What an amazing 2 years it's been. I want to thank all the supporters for welcoming me in too (sic) men's football and giving me a chance to prove what I can do and I want to thank the board and staff for making me and my family feel at home 1 can can't thank you all enough for it. Gainsborough will always have a place in my heart . lts been a pleasure, Thank you @gainstrinityfc"

Wharton initially joined Trinity on a season long loan from then Premier League side Sheffield United, under former boss, Neal Bishop's stewardship.

He kept 16 clean sheets in 67 games, most noteably at home to Chester & York in the. Trophy - and Boston & Kettering away in the FA Cup, but where Wharton truly has his name written into Trinity folklore is his penalty shootout heroics in that most remarkable of matches, that had absolutely everything!

Joe Stacey was returned to Trinity, from his loan spell, ending the season back at the club, his short term deal at Cleethorpes Town, not earning him the increased playing time he had hoped. Stacey took to X, formerly Twitter, to pay tribute to a 'memorable eighteen months' at Gainsborough.

Joe came in at the back end of the 2023/24 season and made an immediate impact as a super sub. Scoring twice from the bench in wins over Basford United & Warrington Rylands. He also scored on the final day, in a 3-2 victory over Champions Radcliffe FC. Signing permanently, following his release from Alfreton Town last summer, the attack minded left-footer went on to make a further 35 appearances (48 in total) but opted to go out on loan, in search of more regular game time.

His statement in full, read, "A season of ups and downs, but what a memorable 18 months at such a fantastic club. Thank you to all the players, staff & fans. Wishing you all the best for the future."

Both players leave with our well wishes and having played important roles in what has been two hugely enjoyable seasons. Good luck and all the best lads!

Boss, Russ Wilcox added, "We wish Joe & Dylan all the best moving forward and thank them for their contributions to our fantastic season."

Dylan was proudly sponsored by 2024/25 by Chantry Agricultural Engineers and Phil Booth. While Joe Stacey was supported by Booth Construction and Chiquita Dannatt. Thank you for your sponsorship & keep your eyes peeled for potential new players for you to sponsor in 2025/26.

Together - Stronger. Your Trinity, Our Future.
