The Mariners won 1-0 in their opening game of pre-season. Danny Rose scoring the only goal of the game against Cleethorpes Town. Cleethorpes having been promoted to the NPL Premier Division as Champions of the East Division. Grimsby followed that with a 1-1 draw against another of our Lincolnshire neighbours, drawing one all with Grimsby Borough. The Borough side featuring two former Trinity forwards, Dayle Southwell & Edwin Essel.

The Holy Blues have started our own pre-season positively. Recording wins against Club Thorne (0-1, at the Chesterfield Poultry Stadium) and Bottesford Town (1-3, at Barrett Steel Stadium). Javelle Clarke netted the only goal in the opening friendly, while Frank Mulhern grabbed a debut brace, with Jonny Margetts scoring the other against Bottesford.

Full Time League 2 side, Grimsby will provide a 'stern test' for Russ Wilcox’s men. The Mariners sitting five leagues higher in the pyramid than Bottesford Town, but a test the group will surely relish, as they look towards the new season. A glance back to last season, and Trinity's cup heroics tell you - Gainsborough will fear no one. And under the Northolme lights, Tuesday will be no different!

It's a first opportunity for the Gainsborough faithful to see their new look recruits. Centre backs Adam Crookes (from National League York City) and Harrison Beeden (from Lancaster City, boasting 200+ appearances) are joined by striker, Frank Mulhern (most recently of Scarborough Athletic) and goal machine - Jonny Margetts... plus many of last season's returning favourites. There's certainly plenty to be excited about, down at the Kal Group Stadium!
