Heading to the Giant Axe, looking to pick up another crucial three points on our quest for a play-off spot, Trinity boss Russ Wilcox knows his side will need to be at their best to get anything out of the game.
Wilcox was quick to praise the progress made under their boss, Jimmy Marshall: "Lancaster next, so another tough game. You know there's no easy games at this level, we speak about that all the time. Another tough game. Their manager's done a great job there. They were down the bottom end last season and now he's got them pushing for play-offs. So, you know we've got to be at our best to pick up points in that game and stay in the race."
Earlier in the season, the two sides played out what seemed like the longest goal-less draw, at the Kal Group Stadium. An injury to an Assistant Referee, step up former Head Steward, Dan Taylor... a medical emergency in the crowd & lengthy delays - that one never really caught hold. Both teams having to settle for a point a piece. That game came as one of four games from five that had yielded clean sheets for David Robson & his defence, with the Holy Blues recording another eleven shut outs to date during the league campaign, bringing the total to fifteen so far!
Wilcox will be hoping for another strong, defensive showing. With perhaps another sprinkling of Stardust, by Sisa. Gainsborough’s
exciting full back, turned forward, Sisa Tuntulwana has been in inspired form in front of goal. Scoring a dozen times in all competitions & assisting approaching double digits too.
Saturday's opponents are averaging 1.6 points per game at home. Winning eight games, whilst drawing five and losing five. Ranking 11th in the Home Table Ranking.
Trinity rank fourth in the Away Table Ranking, also with a 1.6 points return earned from eight wins, four draws and six defeats. Coupled with the fact the sides are sitting 5th and 7th, only separated by Stockton and four points... this one is incredibly tight.
The Dolly Blues have a side packed with NPL experience & higher. Steven Yawson, the Dolly's nippy forward netted twice on Good Friday, he has impressed this season, along with the experienced Nic Evangelinos up top.
Previous Meetings
Previous encounters at the Giant Axe have seen five wins for the Holy Blues and two for the Dolly Blues since 2018. Lewis Butroid & Declan Howe grabbing the goals, in the last visit, back in a December 2024.
Trinity have been unbeaten in four of the last six games between the sides & anyone of a Gainsborough persuasion will be hoping to add another 'W' to the tally. Who will be the Gainsborough Trinity hero, this weekend?

Heading for the match, LA1 5PE will take you to the Giant Axe, where there is a big car park just outside the turnstiles. Also just a short hop from Lancaster Train Station, but the trains could provide a more complex route to and from the city!
