December Player of the Month: Thornton

On loan Guiseley AFC centre back, Will Thornton capped a fine first month in a Gainsborough shirt by winning the Gainsborough Trinity December Player of the Month award, sponsored by Bowland’s Brewery and in association with the Northern Premier League. 22 year old Thornton, who has effortlessly slotted into the back line, joined the Holy Blues shortly after the arrival of Curtis Woodhouse and has been a mountain at the heart of the defence, scoring his first goal in the Lincolnshire derby demolition of Grantham Town at the South Kesteven Stadium.

As soon as the opportunity presented itself for Woodhouse to extend the stay of Thornton, the option was exercised, with the boss determined to retain the services of one of the key components in Trinity’s upturn in fortunes. Voting for the Player of the Month award is carried out on social media. Up to four players are nominated by members of the media team, before voting is opened up to the supporters to see who they believe should be the recipient of a crate of Bowland’s brewed beer.
