Released by Scunthorpe at the end of last season, George caught the eye of boss Tom Shaw in training and he played against us in the Lincolnshire County Cup Quarter Final, assisting for City's consolation with a good cross in from the left. Adding competition for places, in an already competitive squad, Hornshaw’s versatility and youthful exuberance lends itself brilliantly to the group of players Shaw continues to assemble.

"We are so pleased to have managed to bring George into our group for the coming season. He will fit in really well and compliment the rest of our squad. He is athletic, robust and can handle the ball well, he plays the game with some bite and aggression and I think he could potentially be a top performer at the level."

"He played a good number of games in the football league last season and is a player who is ambitious to reach his potential, hopefully in doing really well for Gainsborough, we can help him with this. He plays across a few positions and his character is spot on, he is a young man who will maximise himself every week, an exciting addition to the group indeed."

Hornshaw himself was impressed with what he saw first hand in the Gainsborough versus Lincoln game and revealed:

"What impressed me most in the Lincoln game was the way Gainsborough pressed as a team and made it very difficult to play football. But also in possession they kept the ball well and played some good passes which helped them control the game in parts."

He continued, "I’ve been down for a few training sessions now and I’ve enjoyed it, I feel like I’ll be able to fit in really well. The managers have been really good with me and they want the best for the team which is good to hear. I was with Neal Bishop at Scunthorpe, so that always helps when coming into a new group when you know someone."

Hornshaw recalled his spell on loan with the Holy Blues, "I remember from my loan spell at Gainsborough in 2019 how good a football club this is. Unfortunately I didn’t get to play many games, but I left with nothing but good things to say about the club. Hopefully I can push on, get into the team and win games for the football club."
